(1) Edinburgh stopped recording secondary school vacancy data by subject in 2008. There were 12, 3 and 14 such vacancies in 2008, 2009 and 2010 respectively. These vacancies (and the teaching complement used for calculating the rate) are therefore included in totals only. This is a change from previous years' publications where subject vacancies were included under "other". Vacancies for Head and Depute Head teacher are recorded under the correct category.
Vacancy data was not available for Aberdeenshire 2003.
(2) Gaelic medium and educational psychologist vacancy data not collected prior to 2004.
(3) Additional Support Needs vacancy data collected for the first time in 2006. These may previously have been included in either the "other" category or under "Special" school vacancies. Some authorities may still be including this under "Special".
(4) Centrally employed category not collected prior to 2007.
