  • Gross Value Added in the agricultural sector increased consistently during the period of 1999 to 2004 and then dropped sharply from £1 billion to £0.6 billion in 2005 due to the change from subsidies to direct payment.
  • Since 2005, GVA in Agriculture has increased and stood at £0.8 billion in 2008.

  • Gross Value Added in sea fishing increased from £95 million in 2001 to £119 million in 2006.
  • GVA in aquaculture increased from £74 million to £115 million during the same period.

  • Gross Value Added in all four sector of the food and drink industry increased during the period of 1998-2006.
  • The total GVA in the food and drink industry as a whole increased from £5.8 billion in 1998 to £8.5 billion in 2006.

  • Of £3 billion total GVA in food and drink manufacturing, manufacture of beverages accounted for 57% of the total Gross Value Added in the food and drink manufacturing sector.
  • Meat and fish processing contributed 10% and 6% respectively.
