(1) In 2008 vacancy data for Dundee City was not provided. The data supplied for 2005 has been used as this was the most recent available.
(2) In 2008 vacancy data forCity of Edinburgh was not provided so children and families 2005 data and adults 2007 data has been used as the most recent available.
(3) Vacancy data for Glasgow City was not provided for 2008, so 2006 figures have been used as the most recent available.
(4) Relevant WTE excludes home care staff vacancies
(5) The vacancies in Dundee City are all included in the 'Not Known' category as the contract type was not asked for in 2005. Eilean Siar and Scottish Borders were unable to supply the information and have been included in the 'Not Known' category.
(6) For some councils, certain services are provided by other departments ( e.g. some services for children may be provided by education departments). This will result in some differences in the level of vacancies between councils.
(7) In 2008 vacancy data for Dumfries and Galloway, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Dunbartonshire was not provided. 2007 data has been used in all cases as this was the most recent data avilable.
(8) The category "Other" is made up of the contract types fixed term, sessional, casual/relief and trainee.
(9) Staff numbers may fluctuate over time as a result of various factors, including changes in the way services are provided and changes in the numbers of vacancies. Please refer to Background Notes for further information.
