Dear Sir/Madam

IMPLEMENTATION OF GUIDANCE ON COMMUNITY SERVICE TO SUPPORT REVISED NATIONAL STANDARDS

1. This Circular should be read in conjunction with Circular JD/04/2009, which was issued on 27 February 2009 together with the Guidance on Community Service to Support Revised National Standards.

2. Community Service is the first of four key supporting guidance sections to be issued following a review of the existing National Objectives and Standards for Criminal Justice Social Work. The guidance on Community Service aims to bring a more consistent approach across Scotland to operational delivery arrangements of interventions involving payback to local communities and forms part of the new high level standards, due to be published later this year.

3. Now that the CJA training events for community service managers and staff have been completed the purpose of this Circular is to advise that the guidance should be implemented with effect from Monday 1 June 2009. Criminal Justice Managers are asked to bring this to the attention of all staff involved in the delivery of Community Service Orders and Probation Orders with a condition of unpaid work.

Notification

4. The guidance has now been made available on CD Rom and can also be downloaded from the following revised web address: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2009/03/03103840/0
