Annex C

BSE cases aged less than 48 months in emergency slaughtered (inc. clinical signs at ante-mortem inspection) fallen stock and healthy slaughtered cattle in UK

BSE Table

The UK tested over 3.6 million cattle between 2001 and 2007.

There have been no BSE cases in cattle aged under 48 months in 2008.

(7) All four cases were found in cattle killed and incinerated through the Over Thirty Month Scheme. From 1 January 2006, the EU hygiene regulations tightened the definition of "emergency slaughtered" such that 95% of previous cases would now be disposed of as fallen stock.
