ANNEX 10 ASH SCOTLAND'S PERCEPTION OF ITS PERFORMANCE IN 2004-06

1. As part of the process of production of the Strategic Plan for 2007-10, in January 2007 ASH Scotland conducted separate half day workshops for Board members and staff. Part of this included an assessment of what went well and what didn't go so well in 2004-06.

2. A subsequent event in March 2007 pulled together the outputs from the previous events and, inter alia, discussed Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. This table shows the key items identified by the Board members and staff xix.

What Went Well

What Didn't Go So Well

Strengths

Weaknesses

Smoke free legislation

Expansion of ASH Scotland's work

Our profile, reach and reputation

Information service

Partnership working, alliances and coalitions

Training

Lack of diversity of funding

Rapid growth; lack of support; change management

Misconceptions about the breadth of our work and what we do

Slippage in timescales

Engagement with local authorities

Education and prevention work

Involving hard to reach groups

Credibility with Scottish Government & key organisations - evident in our work at all levels

Partnership working (eg STCA, SCOT) - close working partnerships (steering groups have partners present)

Policy development and lobbying - legislation through earlier than anticipated

Lack of diversity of funding - only one main funder

Limited capacity to gather evidence and so research - always using external orgs - not doing it

Capturing knowledge / continuity of roles; information lost when people leave/ lack of understanding of people's roles within the org
