4.2 WEIGHTED AVERAGE GROSS MARGIN

The table below shows the weighted average gross margin achieved by the 50 dairy enterprises included in the study for the year ending 31st March 2007.

The weighted average gross output for the study showed a gross output of £1,520 per cow or 19.61ppl. This figure dropped to £1,362 per cow (17.57ppl) following the introduction of a replacement charge of £158 (2.04ppl). Weighted average yield per cow was 7,749 litres per cow.

Variable costs were £653 per cow, 8.43ppl.

This gave a Weighted Average Gross Margin of £709 per cow, 9.14ppl.
