Acknowledgements
Once again, as the survey contractors, we are grateful for the commitment of everyone involved in ensuring that the SHS makes a major contribution to informed policy-making within the Scottish Government.
The survey is overseen by a Technical Group, chaired by Aidan Grisewood. The ongoing support of the Group remains a vital ingredient in the success of the survey. A long-standing member, Frank Dixon, has now taken up a new post in GROS. The contractors are grateful for the time and knowledge he has devoted to the SHS since it started in 1999.
Within the Scottish Government, a number of researchers and statisticians act as lead analysts for the Scottish Household Survey in their particular policy area. They play a major role in identifying question areas for inclusion in the survey, making sure they reflect important policy issues. Their contribution has improved this report considerably and is gratefully appreciated. In 2007 an additional module, covering culture and sport was added to the survey; particular thanks are due to Janet Ruiz, Sandra Campbell and Andrew Macartney for providing their knowledge and support to introducing this.
The SHS Team in the Scottish Government has a pivotal role in guiding all aspects of the survey, ensuring it continues to develop and flourish. A major role is in promoting the dissemination of the survey findings and the use of the data within the Scottish Government and in the wider policy and research communities. We are grateful in particular for all the effort that the team has put into developing and guiding the extensive revision to this report.
The contractors would particularly like to thank Mairi Spowage, Jonathan Waite, Alan Sloan, Ian Máté, Duncan Gray, Eilidh MacDonald and Willie Hunter for their continuing support and guidance during 2007, for running various events designed to promote and develop the survey throughout the year and for their assistance and patience in the drafting of this report.
Finally, special thanks are due to the 13,414 households who agreed to take part in the Survey during the course of 2007 and to the more than 200 interviewers from the companies who continue to show persistence and dedication in collecting the data that is presented in this report. Other staff within the three organisations also deserve thanks for the part they play in supporting the SHS process.
In spite of all this support, any errors that may remain in this report are, of course, our own.
