Second Jobs
In 2007, 3.7% of working age people had a second job. Table 14 shows the variation across local authorities. The Orkney Islands and Eilean Siar had the highest proportion of working age people employed with a second job with 10.3% and 10.2% respectively. North Ayrshire had the lowest proportion with only 1.8% of working age residents with a second job.

In 2007, the proportion of working age residents in the 15% most deprived areas with a second job (3.2%) was similar to the proportion for the rest of Scotland (3.8%).
Working age residents living in remote rural areas were most likely to have a second job with 8.0% of them in secondary employment in 2007. This compares to 3.0% for other urban areas and 3.1% for large urban areas.
In 2007, the proportion of working age people with a second job was higher in the Highlands & Enterprise area at 7.3%. This compares to 3.4% for the rest of Scotland.
