This research would not have been possible without the input of a host of people too numerous to mention by name. The early stages of the study required the engagement of Community Learning and Development ( CLD) practitioners across the country; and the sheer number of people willing to travel many miles to do so was an early indication of the scale of commitment that we encountered as we developed and tested the instrument that is the subject of this report.
Special mention must go to the workers and managers in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire who were willing participants in the test sites. Their enthusiasm, 'can-do' approach and willingness to work with us on the test goals were matched only by the warmth of welcome extended to consultants asking a lot of those that already carry considerable workloads. The fact that staffs across voluntary and statutory sectors were so willing to engage in the process was much appreciated and ensured that the test was able to reach a good spectrum of CLD participants. Thanks must also therefore go to the 231 people of all ages that took part in the test and brought the instrument to life.
A study of this nature benefits from those with an understanding of the task and of the field; we were fortunate to have had both in the research advisory group. Members proved immensely helpful and supportive from the outset and came into their own as the findings emerged.
The Avanté team that pulls together to deliver our research is also invaluable and complements the work of the consultancy team; this includes IT, statistical as well as office support staff.
Thank you all for your time and resources, your insights and your candour.
