Trend in exports from the food and drink industry in Scotland (including agriculture and fisheries), 2002-2006

- The increase in total food and drink exports during 2002-2006 period came solely from the increase in manufactured exports.
- Manufacturing exports increased from £2,780 million to £3,740 million between 2002 and 2006. Whilst exports from wholesale and agriculture and fisheries fell by £80 million each.

- Manufactured drink accounts for 82% of total exports from Scotland, with manufactured food being a much smaller export market of 10% of the total.
- Wholesaling and agriculture and fisheries account for 5% and 3% respectively.

- The biggest market for Scottish export is the EU25, accounting for 42% of total.
- Asia and North America are also large markets accounting for 20% and 17% respectively.

- The drinks processing sector (reflecting mostly whisky exports) focuses largely on non- UK markets, with 42% of its produce sold abroad.
- The dairy sector sells predominantly within the UK.
