CHAPTER TWO THE CONSULTATION PROCESS

2.1 The purpose of the Strategy consultation draft was to provide a basis for anyone interested in wild deer to engage with the strategy and inform its development. The draft was developed through engagement with an Advisory Group (range of stakeholders) and a Steering Group ( DCS, Scottish Natural Heritage, Forestry Commission for Scotland, and the Scottish Government). The draft has progressed through a number of stages, including: developing a long-term vision, articulating a set of objectives to provide a framework for management, developing a set of key actions, and identifying monitoring and evaluation frameworks.

2.2 The consultation period ran from 5th November, 2007, to 1st February, 2008. In addition, there were four public events that sought to engage with stakeholders and solicit further views. A number of responses were received outwith this consultation period. All responses have been incorporated into the final analysis, although one late response could not be included in the statistical analysis.
