Average hay yield (extensive crop): 5 tonnes/hectare
Average hay price (Outer Hebrides 2006): £140 per tonne
For bird-friendly mowing, assumed that contracor's work rate will drop from 1 hectare per hour to 0.67 hectare per hour. Therefore, 1.5 hours taken to mow 1 hectare @ £19.80 per hectare. Additional cost is £9.40 per hectare.
