Dear Sir/Madam
GLASGOW 2014 COMMONWEALTH GAMES
Glasgow 2014 - Delivering a lasting legacy for Scotland -a consultation paper
This consultation document invites you to have your say in how we, the Scottish Government and its delivery partners, plan to identify and deliver the maximum benefits and legacy to the whole of Scotland from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.
There is a vast range of opportunities that staging a major sporting event on our doorstep can have for us. This consultation paper sets out our initial views on how we might best go about securing a lasting legacy primarily from the Glasgow 2014 Games, but also from the London 2012 Olympic Games as a milestone on our route to the 2014 Games.
Our thinking is that our legacy planning should fit broadly into the Scottish Government's own 5 strategic objectives which reach across key areas of government; Wealthier and Fairer; Healthier, Safer and Stronger, Smarter,Greener) You can find more information on these strategic objectives for Government at http://www.scotland.gov.uk/About/purposestratobjs
In particular, we are asking you to reply to four key questions at the end of the consultation document
- are the benefits you would like from the Games covered in this paper?
- is there anything else we should be doing?
- how can we, individually or collectively, best achieve these aims?
- do you have any other comments to offer on what should feature in the final games benefits and legacy plan?
The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will belong to all of us, and so we are looking to people across Scotland to get involved in this consultation to help us arrive at the best benefits and legacy plan possible.
For more information about the Glasgow 2014 - Delivering a lasting legacy for Scotland consultation process please go to http://www.scotland.gov.uk/glasgow2014legacy
