Dear Sir/Madam
Consultation on Scottish Road Safety Strategy
Being able to use the roads safely is important for everyone. Despite significant reductions in the number of people killed or seriously injured on Scotland's roads in recent years, casualties among certain groups of road user have not fallen as much as had been hoped. The Scottish Government is committed to making the roads in Scotland safer and has set up a Panel of Experts to advise on further measures which will build on existing good practice and address areas of concern.
The Scottish Government is planning to develop a strategy to improve road safety over the next ten years and is keen to obtain the views of a wide range of interested groups. The consultation document enclosed with this letter sets out the key issues affecting road safety in Scotland and invites comments and suggestions as to the way forward.
The Appendix to this letter provides information about how to respond to this consultation and about the consultation process generally. Respondents are asked to complete the Respondent Information Form and return it, along with their comments, by 25 April 2008.
Yours faithfully

Mrs Ann Whatcott
