1. The "Notes and Definitions" describe how DfT estimates average ages from the details in its Vehicle Information Database, and how the method has changed.
2. Includes all two wheeled motor vehicles.
3. For 1999 onwards, estimated using DfT's new method - see the "Notes and Definitions".
4. Estimates include only those vehicles with more than 8 seats.
5. Vehicles in the "Special Concessionary Group" (part of "other vehicles"in 2002 and earlier years) are part of "Crown and Exempt" from 2003 onwards.
