Crofting Counties Agricultural Grants Scheme ( CCAGS)

This document is also available in pdf format (348kb)

what is CCAGS?

CCAGS provides grants to crofters and certain other occupiers of land to aid and develop agricultural production on crofts or certain holdings in the Crofting Counties.

CCAGS contributes to the following outcomes:

  • Rural development benefiting communities
  • Thriving rural communities
  • Populations retained in rural communities
  • Sustainable land management practices

Eligible operations include land improvement, agricultural building, power and access services, and facilities for keeping livestock.

Who can apply?

  • Croft tenants, subtenants, and crofting groups seeking to meet the above outcomes can apply.
  • Croft owners and small farmers in the Crofting Counties of a similar status to tenants may also participate.

When and how do I apply?

  • You may submit your proposal at any time of the year.
  • Application forms are available from your local SGRPID area office and the Crofters' Commission.
  • You must not incur expenditure or start work prior to receiving written approval from SGRPID to do so.

Do any restrictions apply?

Yes.

  • Funding for CCAGS is limited and applications may be refused if budget limits are reached.
  • Grants of up to £25,000 for individuals and up to £125,000 for eligible groups in any 2-year period may be available.
  • Grants are normally paid at 50% of eligible costs in Less Favoured Areas and 40% in other areas.

Where can I go for assistance or guidance?

You can seek advice from your local SGRPID area office and the Crofters' Commission.

What information do I need to supply with my application?

  • You will need to submit a completed economic status test form with evidence of income if you are not a croft tenant.
  • Different operations have their own requirements in terms of supporting documentation; please refer to Guidance Notes for Applicants.

What will happen to my application once I have submitted it?

Your local SGRPID area office will process your application. We aim to provide a decision in writing within 90 days for buildings and 42 days for all other operations and will explain how to make a claim. Claims will be paid after the project has been completed. On receipt of a properly completed form, claims will be paid within 42 days for non-inspected cases and 90 days for those cases selected for inspection.

Once I am participating in CCAGS, what general conditions will apply?

It is a condition of grant that improvements carried out satisfy all statutory requirements, observe the latest Codes of Practice, and generally adhere to Good Farming Practices. Any specific conditions will be set out in the offer of grant.

What will happen if I fail to meet the rules of the scheme?

  • Where conditions have been breached, arrangements are in place to recover grant with interest.
  • An appeals process is in place and you will be advised of the route to take in the event of your dissatisfaction with a decision.

Where can I find more details about CCAGS?

Further guidance will be available on the Scottish Government website www.scotland.gov.uk/srdp
