10. ALIGNMENT WITH SHD BOUNDARIES
This review of the SWD sites is also an opportunity to address the boundaries which have been set in each of the existing designated waters, and to see if the aims of the SWD and the related SHD may be better served by amending the SWD boundaries to align more closely with those of the SHD. We also propose to work more closely with SEPA and the FSA(S) to review our designation process, to ensure that where appropriate future designations made under both the SWD and the SHD complement each other and reflect the expansion and activity of the shellfish industry as accurately as possible.
With this in mind, we would be particularly grateful to have any specific or additional information from consultees on this approach. Aligning SWD and SHD boundaries where appropriate would mean that any changes in locations of farms or potential harvesting sites would be more accurately reflected, as SHD sites are designated more frequently than SWD waters. Any change would however, have to fulfil the terms of the SWD in that any changes made may on no account lead, either directly or indirectly, to increased pollution of growing waters.
