Note: It was assumed that children whose fifth birthday fell between 1 September 2006 and 28 February 2007 were eligible for deferred entry to primary education. This is a change from last year, when it was assumed that children turning five in August were also eligible.
Source: Estimated population by sex, single year of age and administrative area, 30 June 2006, GRO-Scotland.
Figures used are revised figures, released in July 2007, and adjusted to estimate the number of children eligible for pre-school education. See background notes for details.
The number of children eligible for ante-pre-school is smaller than the number eligible for pre-school as children whose third birthday fell between January and March 2007 were under 3 at the time of the census and are included in the "2 year olds" category.
