Note: Centres providing pre-school education as a local authority centre or in partnership with the local authority only. Includes 86 centres that did not specify how pre-school education was provided but reported providing pre-school education in 2006. These have been classified as partnership centres. A further 17 centres reported providing pre-school education neither as an local authority centre nor in partnership with the local authority, and 58 centres did not specify how pre-school education was provided and did not report providing pre-school eduation in 2006.
Children are counted once for each centre they are registered with.
Children may cross local authority boundaries to attend pre-school education.
367 centres did not provide information about registrations. Where possible, figures from the 2006 census have been used for those centres (246 centres). For the remaining 121, the median numbers of registrations for each type of pre-school have been applied.
The number of children eligible for ante-pre-school is smaller than the number eligible for pre-school as children whose third birthday fell between January and March 2007 were under 3 at the time of the census and are included in the "under 3" category.
