GTCS registered teachers may work in more than one centre. Figures for the total number of teachers in each local authority may therefore include some double counting.
124 centres did not provide information on the number of GTCS registered teachers. Where possible, figures provided in the 2006 census have been used for those centres (74 centres). For the remaining 50, the median number of teachers for each type of pre-school has been applied.
Of the 1,501 centres which reported having at least one GTC registered teacher, 1,263 provided whole time equivalent information. Using these centres, the ratio between headcount and WTE has been calculated for each local authority, and these ratios have been applied to the final headcount for each local authority to estimate the total whole time equivalent figures. See background notes for an explanation of Whole Time Equivalent.
The number of staff in centres providing pre-school education in Gaelic may be an undercount as 200 centres did not answer the question about Gaelic. Where the information was provided in the 2006 census (90 centres), this was used.
