Note: Centres providing pre-school education as a local authority centre or in partnership with the local authority only. Includes 86 centres that did not specify how pre-school education was provided but reported providing pre-school education in 2006. A further 17 centres reported providing pre-school education neither as an local authority centre nor in partnership with the local authority, and 58 centres did not specify how pre-school education was provided and did not report providing pre-school eduation in 2006.

"Pre-school class - other public" includes pre-school classes in grant-aided schools and other centres in the public sector where it was not known whether the centre was LA or partnership or whether it was attached to a school. See background notes for details.

The number of centres providing pre-school education in Gaelic may be an undercount as 200 centres did not answer this question. Where the information was provided in the 2006 census (90 centres), this was used.
