CHAPTER 2: MEMBER STATE AND ADMINISTRATIVE REGION

2.1 Geographical area covered by the Programme

United Kingdom. This Programme is submitted by the Scottish Executive, which was constituted under the Scotland Act 1998. This legislation devolves a range of powers and responsibilities to the Scottish Parliament, including rural development. The Programme covers the administrative region of Scotland.

2.2 Regions classified as 'Convergence' objective

The Scotland Rural Development Programme ( SRDP) area includes the geographical area of the 2007-13 Convergence Programme for the Highlands and Islands of Scotland (under the 'statistical effect' provision of Regulation ( COM(2004)492), and the 2007-13 Competitiveness Programme for Lowland Scotland, as shown in Figure 2.1 below. The SRDP will complement support provided through these Programmes.

EU funding for the 2007-13 SRDP includes a transfer of Convergence monies for the Highlands and Islands in recognition that agricultural funds provided under the 2000-06 Highlands and Islands Special Transition Programme has been integrated with the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development ( EAFRD) for the 2007-13 programming period.
