Harvesting by traditional methods based on SAC Benbecula survey of 3 prominent North Uist crofters who employ these methods when conditions allow
The crofters are Macdonald, Dunskellar; Macdonald, Clachan Sands and Macdonald, Kyles Paible. The last of these is also a contractor who, if there was a demand, would charge £600 - £650/ha for contract work. There are no other contractors who do this work but one crofter harvests for his neighbours only at the uncommercial rate of £420/ha.
