Average hay yield (extensive crop): 6 tonnes/hectare
Average hay price (2006): £90 per tonne (Range: £65/tonne to £120/tonne)
For bird-friendly mowing, assumed that contracor's work rate will drop from 1 hectare per hour to 0.67 hectare per hour. Therefore, 1.5 hours taken to mow 1 hectare @ £19.80 per hectare. Additional cost is £9.40 per hectare.
