Household Expenditure

The mean household expenditure for Scotland was £393.80 per week in 2003/04-2005/06 (Table 5.6), around £38 lower than for the UK as a whole. In most categories, spending was higher for the UK. The UK mean expenditure on transport was over £6 higher than in Scotland. However, spending on alcoholic drinks and tobacco was slightly higher in Scotland than in the UK at £14.30 compared to £11.30. Average spending on Clothing and footwear was also slightly higher in Scotland than in the UK as a whole.
