ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
The piloting of electronic monitoring as a condition of bail has received a high level of cooperation and support from the various professionals involved and their continued support to the research team during the fieldwork period has been greatly appreciated. These people include not only the sponsors within the Scottish Executive, but also the National Steering Group and Local Liaison Group members representing both the national and local interests in the 3 geographical areas under study. Amongst others, representatives from the Scottish Court Service, the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, the Police, Social Work Departments, Victim Information and Advice, SACRO, the Law Society, the Faculty of Advocates, Reliance, Serco and the Scottish Executive gave constructive feedback on earlier drafts of this report. Thanks also must go to the two academic referees who gave very constructive and useful comments on the final draft.
We are also grateful to the Scottish Criminal Record Office, the Scottish Court Service and the Scottish Executive's Justice Statistics Branch for retrieving elusive quantitative data on our behalf. Thanks also to Lee Barnsdale for helping with the gathering of quantitative data, Moyra Guilar for transcribing the tape-recorded interviews and to Pam Lavery for her help in finalising the reports.
Finally, we would like to extend our gratitude to those people who were subject to bail with electronic monitoring for agreeing to participate in the research. Their views and experiences and those of their families about electronic monitoring on bail were extremely useful in helping us evaluate the implementation of these pilot schemes.
