| Table VA2a: Voluntary Assistance - Throughcare Addiction Service - Cases Commenced | |
| |
| Table VA2a should give details of the total number of Throughcare Addiction Service Cases which commenced in the period 1st August 2005 to 31st March 2006, as delineated below. | |
| |
| Since this table concerns a subset of Voluntary Assistance cases (those who received the Throughcare Addiction Service) the total number of cases commenced should be less than the total number of cases in VA1. | |

| Throughcare Addiction Service Guidance | |
| |
| The new Throughcare Addiction Service (TAS) commenced on 1 August 2005 and forms part of the voluntary aftercare service, which is often referred to as "Phase 2" of the enhanced throughcare strategy. TAS is delivered by local authority criminal justice social work - or by one of their contracted service providers - who will work with the offender in the 6 week period prior to release from custody through the 6 week period post-release. The Throughcare Addiction Service worker will offer a more intensive motivational service and attempt to help the offender address their addiction (and associated) difficulties and link them into appropriate services. TAS is not normally available to those prisoners who are serving sentences of less than 31 days unless they are within the following two priority groups: female offenders and young male offenders. | |

| Further Clarification | |
| |
| The phrase "case commenced" means that the TAS provider has accepted the TAS referral from the SPS Enhanced Addiction Service Provider. | |
