Advisory Committee Recommendations 1971-1999
Over the past twenty-eight years the Committee has made many recommendations in its successive 'end of term' reports. These have covered a broad span of issues which may be summarised as follows:
- local authority site provision
- private site provision
- temporary stopping places
- other stopping
- site guidance
- traveller involvement
- the grant scheme
- site running costs
- site management
- management training
- overall responsibility for Travellers within local authorities
- local authority staffing for Traveller matters
- the policy of toleration and non-harassment
- equality
- health
- education
- housing
- voluntary organisations
- monitoring Traveller numbers
- research on Travellers
- the Advisory Committee role (including continuation, remits, links and support)
In order to demonstrate both the spread of the Committee's involvement in Traveller matters and the extent to which recommendations in particular subject areas, this Appendix draws together all the recommendations made throughout the lifetime of the Committee, including the present term.
Recommendations have been grouped under the headings listed above, though in some cases a given recommendation may relate to more than one subject area.
Within the headings, recommendations are ordered by the Committee term to which they relate, indicated in the second and third columns of the tables.
The first column gives a universal guide to the numbering of the recommendations to aid identification of the cross references in this appendix and the main part of this report.
