FPSR - LG C-C2 / Fire Service Reform

1. Portfolio/Number/Name: Finance and Public Service Reform / FPSR - LG C-C2 / Fire Service Reform

This project has been withdrawn.

The efficiencies originally identified to be generated from fire service reforms were to have derived from the rationalisation of emergency control rooms. However no decision on that issue is now expected before Summer 2007 at the earliest, as the matter is being considered as part of a review of Scotland's preparedness to deal with simultaneous major emergencies. This review was commissioned in June 2006, by the Minister for Justice. If decisions are taken Summer 2007 to reorganise the structure of fire and rescue services, including a reduction in the number of control rooms, the rationalisation process would take 2 - 3 years to implement - so any resultant efficiencies would fall within the next spending review period.
