Accessibility
The Scottish Executive takes the issue of accessibility very seriously. The SNS website has been designed to comply with the international web accessibility standards issued by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) as part of their Web Accessibility Initiative. All reasonable efforts have been made to ensure that top level and main content pages are compliant with the standards.

Metadata
As part of the latest phase in the SNS project there has been a move towards Integrated Public Sector Vocabulary ( IPSV) compliance with Government standard metadata. All new indicators being loaded onto the system will meet IPSV requirements and existing indicators will be updated over time.

IPSV is an 'encoding scheme' for populating the e- GMS Subject element of metadata. It is fully compliant with ISO 2788 and BS 8723, the International and British Standards for monolingual thesauri. The vocabulary was developed with the backing of the DCLG (Department for Communities and Local Government) and the e GU (Cabinet Office e-Government Unit). Version 2.00 was released in April 2006.
