APPENDIX THREE PUBLIC ATTITUDES SURVEYS
Two public attitudes surveys were carried out in July 2006 for the evaluation - a telephone survey of 1,005 members of the general public across Scotland and a postal survey of 4,000 people aged 65 or over or who are unpaid carers. Both surveys asked a core set of questions on public awareness and attitudes to FPC. In addition the postal survey asked questions specifically relating to older people's and carers' experience of FPC.
The telephone survey was carried out by Progressive Scottish Opinion between 11 th July - 19 th July 2006, as part of their continuous omnibus survey (i.e. a survey incorporating modules of questions commissioned by a range of clients). The survey uses a quota sampling approach.
1,005 adults were interviewed across Scotland. A full data set for the results of the survey was provided, weighted and analysed according to:
- Age
- Gender
- Socio-Economic Group ( SEG)
- Region.
The postal survey was issued in the second week of July to a representative sample of 4,000 people aged 60 or over and carers drawn from the Scottish Household Survey database of respondents. 57 We received a total of 1,327 responses to the survey; a response rate of c.33%.
The main findings of both surveys have been presented in the report.
