(1) The S5 stage staying-on rates are based on S3 pupils 2 years earlier, and S6 rates on S3 pupils 3 years earlier.
Post Christmas staying-on rates are calculated as a percentage of the post Christmas S5 roll divided by the S3 roll 2 years earlier. The post Christmas role in S5 is calculated by subtracting the number of first term leavers in S5 from the September S5 roll.
1996-98 stage roll data used to calculate staying-on rates excludes pupils in special units. 1999-06 stage roll data used to calculate staying-on rates includes pupils in special units.
