Listen

In the first half of 2006 there was a well received programme of consultation and engagement on developing a Strategy for a Scotland with an Ageing Population which attracted a significant response and indicated broad support for the main themes of the strategy.

The main themes are:

• Access to opportunities for older people to make a continuing contribution

• Effective integrated services for older people;

• Promoting and maintaining health and wellbeing;

• People living in accommodation and environments which continue to meet their needs and wishes as they age.

As well as the public consultation, this process included an external Advisory Group, liaison with the Older People's Consultative Forum, both chaired by the Minister for Communities, bilateral meetings with other Ministers, an Ad Hoc Group of Ministers on a Strategy for a Scotland with an Ageing Population, a series of subject specific seminars organised by external stakeholders, policy briefings, a telephone survey and focus groups.
