Acknowledgements

Many thanks are due to the following people who helped us in our evaluation:

Ian Clark, our project manager at Scottish Executive (subsequently at the Scottish Court Service), who, as well as managing the project, worked extremely hard to help us fill in some of the gaps in our data.

Robert Jenkins, at the Scottish Court Service, who explained the mysteries of HCCMS to us and arranged for data to be transferred.

Mike Morrice, of Delphi Computer Consultants Ltd., who dealt with the technical aspects of data extraction from HCCMS.

All the criminal justice personnel who gave up their time to take part in interviews, or to assist us in arranging court observations and interviews with High Court judges.
