(b) START( Self-help Treatment Access Resource Team)
The START training follows the same principles and format as the SPIRIT training but includes sessions on anxiety and computerised self-help as well as the added primary care support materials.
The training has allowed the development of self-help services within a stepped care approach within Primary Care Mental Health Teams. Many teams now have a Self-help Support Worker who is trained in the START approach to use the materials with patients one to one or in groups.
Both sets of training have been found to be very acceptable and adaptable for the trainees.
A free Practitioner support site is available at www.fiveareas.com where the aims and objectives of both courses can also be downloaded and practitioners can complete free on-line training modules.
