ANNEX 4
SPECIFIC NON-TIMETABLED REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the sailings specified in the relevant timetables, the Operator will be required to respond to certain other requirements on parts of the CHFS Network. This Annex sets out examples of events which the Operator must continue to cater for.

CFL currently provide additional non-scheduled sailings to meet a range of requirements including:

  • sailings for the Ministry of Defence vehicles that cannot be accommodated by a standard sailing (average of four return journeys p.a., usually on the Uig - Lochmaddy route));
  • extra sailings from Oban to Craignure for dangerous goods (on average 1 return journey per month);
  • vessel charters to local authorities providing ferry services in the Clyde & Hebrides (in general this constitutes the charter of an Island class vessel for up to 6 weeks (depending on CFL drydocking programme) on an Argyll & Bute Council route between Port Askaig and Jura);
  • vessel charters to film crews for the making of adverts or films (average one charter per year);
  • special sailings to Kerrera for a fuel tanker (average of six return journeys per year); and
  • special sailings to Easdale for a fuel tanker (average of four return journeys per year)

Stornoway - Ullapool

Tenderers will note that the overnight return goods sailing from Stornoway to Ullapool is not listed in the main timetable as it is a goods preference service. This service does however form part of the Service Specification and therefore the Minimum Standard.

Tenderers should note that, as set out in Section 3.7.4, the MV Isle of Lewis (or whichever other vessel provides the twice-daily return sailing on this route) is not also available for use on the overnight service on this route. Cars are carried if there is space and on a first come first served basis; there is no booking or reservation arrangement for cars.

There is no fixed timetable for this service but rough timings are as follows:

  • Monday - Saturday - Loading of the vessel in Stornoway commences around 2230 and she sets sail as soon as she is ready, not usually before 2330. Expected arrival time in Ullapool will be from 0330 onwards; and
  • Departure from Ullapool will be at around 0430 with arrival back in Stornoway at around 0800 (all timings being flexible to accommodate traffic and sea conditions).
