ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE ANNUAL REPORT 2005/06 VERIFICATION STATEMENT
INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE
White Young Green Environmental ( WYGE) was commissioned by the Scottish Executive to provide independent verification of the content and accuracy of the data presented in their sixth annual Environmental Performance Report covering the 2005/06 year.
WHITE YOUNG GREEN ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES
This statement represents our independent opinion on the accuracy and validity of the content and data provided within the report. We have had no involvement in the preparation of this report and the Scottish Executive continues to remain responsible for environmental performance throughout the organisation.
The Scottish Executive's sixth Environmental Performance Report contains information on the progress against targets established prior to the 2005/06 reporting year. WYGE was not involved in the verification of preceding Scottish Executive Environmental Reports. However, verification statements covering previous Environmental Reports (completed by Factorten) have been accepted, enabling WYGE to make the necessary conclusions regarding the accuracy of reported progress against defined targets.
METHODOLOGY
WYGE conducted a verification assessment to examine, on a sample basis, whether the data and information collated for presentation within this report was accurate. We tested the information through:
- Interviewing operational Scottish Executive staff responsible for environmental management, data collection and environmental performance evaluation;
- Undertaking a detailed review of records and data;
- Evaluating the processes used for the generation of the records and data.
This approach covered all sections of the report, namely:
- Environmental Management
- Energy and Emissions
- Procurement
- Waste
- Water
- Transport and Travel
- Videoconferencing
- Biodiversity.
OPINION STATEMENT
On the basis of the methodology described, we are satisfied that the information and data contained within the Environmental Performance Report is accurate, reliable and provides a fair and balanced representation of environmental performance across the Scottish Executive.
