Acknowledgements
The data commented on in this report were funded from a number of sources. We are grateful to the Economic and Social Research Council for supporting the Scottish Social Attitudes survey in its first two years, and for subsequent grants to study the impact of devolution. We would also like to acknowledge the support of the Leverhulme Trust for their funding in 2003. The data collected in 2004 and 2005 on which this report focuses were funded by the Scottish Executive Office of Chief Researcher ( OCR). We are very grateful to Iain MacAllister, Katriona Carmichael and Sarah Campbell of OCR for their support with the questionnaire design and analysis.
The Scottish Social Attitudes survey is very much a collaborative venture. Catherine Bromley played a central role in developing this module and we are heavily indebted to her for the excellent report on the 2004 findings that she co-authored. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our colleagues in NatCen's operations and computing departments, to Ann Mair at the Social Statistics Laboratory at Strathclyde University, and to our team of interviewers and supervisors for conducting the interviews with such dedication and professionalism.
Finally we must thank the people who gave up their time voluntarily to speak to us and share their views; we hope that one day some of them might come across this report and read about themselves with interest.
Responsibility for the opinions expressed in this report, and for all interpretation of the data, lies solely with the author.
John Curtice
