Description of project
The project was the Local Community Planning process adopted in Grangemouth. This was the pilot area for producing local community plans. The Community Reference Group felt this process was an inclusive one. It meant various agencies coming together with community organisations and individuals to arrive at a shared agenda. |
Context - describe the background to the project
The Pilot project was introduced by the local community planning team. Legislation placed responsibility on the local authority, other key public sector agencies and the community to get around the table to develop and implement the community planning process in Falkirk. |
What are the aims and objectives of the project?
- To produce a local community plan that reflects a vision for the community of Grangemouth
- To highlight local issues on a themed basis and identify ways of addressing them.
- To give a pivotal role to local organisations in the development, implementation and evaluation of the plan
|
Timescale - over what timescale has the project been developed?
The time scales were over a period of 18 months |
Action - explain the process and action taken
The process entailed community engagement in the form of conferences, surveys, study visits, workshops and appreciative enquiry sessions, joint meetings with agencies and the officer networks and planning and prioritisation meetings. |
Explain the role of the key partners
The key partners facilitated by the local community planning team were there to share their technical expertise and inform us of their planned activity. They were there to listen to our views and appreciated our local knowledge and expertise |
Results - what results were achieved?
The results were that we have arrived at a shared agenda. We will have a local plan that we will recognise as the Community Reference Group as having stewardship over the plan and an enhanced network of support and avenues for communication and dialogue. It also will give us a clear steer in terms of future action and will promote the Community Reference Group and make it even more accountable to the wider community of Grangemouth. |
Conclusion - in summary, why does this piece of work merit an Award?
It is important for communities to see emerging plans as having its roots in the area and not perceived as put together in some sort of tokenistic way. We can see from this process that the plan was arrived it by real community involvement and there has been a shared learning experience for all involved including officers. We believe this augurs well for future action and therefore merits recognition. |
