Appendix 2: Weaknesses of Streetsense

  • At the lower levels the spaces to write or draw in are too small
  • The resource should be in primary stages rather than levels
  • Not enough worksheets to reinforce the road safety message
  • Too much language based activities
  • The illustrations for D&E look more appropriate to the age group
  • Language I worksheets is difficult for poor readers and rely heavily on the teacher for guidance
  • There's a great deal of detail in some of the illustrations - can be confusion for children
  • Used level A with P1 - some of the worksheets were too simple and some of the activities more geared towards nursery level
  • Some of the worksheets were too difficult for P1 without a lot of input from the teacher
  • Teacher must be made aware that it's not necessary to do all the activities
  • Some worksheets were too complicated to complete independently
  • Some of the activities are very similar - more variety would be beneficial
  • Has been referenced to CDROM which we don't seem to have
  • Could do with more posters - difficult to share as 4 classes may be using a particular level at the same time
  • Difficult to carry out all activities due to the time allowed for health and a crowded curriculum.
