Appendix 1: Strengths of Streetsense

  • Easy to use
  • Photo cards are particularly useful for discussion work
  • Excellent resource
  • Can be used as a stand alone or integrated with others
  • Children enjoy the layout of the worksheets and are eager to participate in activities
  • Staff using level A report that the computer programme is very useful and enjoyable for the children
  • I envisage it, along with the JRSO programme, being the main thrust for our road safety programme
  • We based our road safety programme on ideas and lessons suggested in Streetsense
  • Very organised programme which provides a good focus
  • Streetsense is used from P1-7 as an integral part of our citizenship, PSD and health education programme
  • Dovetails with a variety of resources in a prescriptive programme
  • Acts as good reinforcement to work covered on class
  • Children enjoy the pictures especially in the lower school
  • It's promoted a lot of discussion in the upper stages of school
  • The layout is easy to organise for dividing up resources/ worksheets/ teachers' information to distribute to class teachers
  • Up to date
  • Very realistic activities
  • Planning route to school in P7 is excellent
  • One teacher commented that the road safety aspects were particularly informative for herself
  • Photocopies of the resource are compiled by the council road safety department
  • Clear and relevant lesson plans and worksheets
  • Posters and photos are very useful
