1 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

The research for this report would not have been possible without the co-operation and willingness to provide information of the many asylum seekers and refugees who participated in the three focus groups held in Glasgow.

We are also extremely grateful to the staff at the British Red Cross, Positive Action in Housing and the Scottish Refugee Council who assisted us in identifying and making arrangements for the attendance of focus group participants.

Thanks are due to members of the Refugee Advisory Group representing Glasgow City Council, the Commission for Racial Equality, Scottish Refugee Council, Southside Housing Association, CoSLA, the Care Commission and the Scottish Executive for their expert advice and support throughout the project.

Finally, we would like to acknowledge the commitment to the objectives of the research shown by all those who attended the initial consultation seminar held in Edinburgh in July 2004. Their contributions on the day in workshops and seminars provided much of the early focus for the researchers.
