Filling in the document

Departing Location

  • The keeper at the departure location must fill in section 1 including the destination details and the date of departure.
  • The haulier details must be entered providing private vehicle or haulage company details.
  • The pink copy of the movement document should be retained by the departing keeper for their records. The white/yellow copy of the movement document must travel with the animals to their destination location.
  • If you are exporting animals outside GB it is the departing keeper's responsibility to notify SAMU of the move as outlined below.

Points to note

If you move any sheep or goats off any holding, except for emergency veterinary treatment and return from grazing moves, they must be tagged as set out here.

If animals arrive at an Abattoir that are not identified as required above they may be refused entry into the food chain.

Please note that baseline tags may be any colour except for red. Replacement tags must be red in colour.

A farm assurance number may be added to the movement document.

The individual number must be recorded on the movement document for moves to shows, for breeding exemptions (see Animal Health & Welfare guidance), or if the animal already carries 3 official tags.
