On 30 September 2005 there were 46 care homes for physically disabled people providing 551 places and with 477 residents. Amongst the 547 available places 482 (88 per cent) were in single rooms and 351 (64 per cent) offered en-suite facilities.
Since March 2000 the number of care homes has increased by 7 from 39. In the same period, the number of registered places has fallen from 823, a reduction of 272 places, and the number of residents has dropped from 723, down by 246. Of the 46 care homes for physically disabled people, the majority, 35 (or 76 per cent) were operated by voluntary organisations. These voluntary homes offered 432 places to residents (78 per cent of all places). Of the remaining 11 care homes, 3 were operated by local authorities and 8 were in the private sector.
Table 17 omits any homes that later deregistered (after March 2002) to become Housing Support services (more information on those can be found in annex F).
