Introduction
The purpose of this Statistics Release is to present national figures for care homes for adults in Scotland. All figures relate to 30 September 2005 and are provisional and, as such, subject to change. The final figures will be published on the Scottish Executive website later this year. Final figures for the period March 2000 to March 2005 are also included. The information is derived from the Scottish Care Home Census.
This release also includes details of long stay residents in Care Homes for Older People for censuses dating back to March 2003. This is the first time such information has been published since the introduction of the current form of the census in March 2003.
All figures in this release omit care homes that deregistered to become Housing Support services. Information on the number of former care homes deregistering for this reason can be found in annex F.
