Indicators of progress
APPENDIX 3
Indicators are the means by which progress towards the strategy goals will be assessed. It is important that indicators are representative of the broad structure of the agricultural industry, that they are carefully thought out and that they make full use of existing data sources. Indicators will relate to the three main goals of the strategy - food production and marketing, rural development and environment. The process of developing the indicators is underway but further work is required to investigate sources of data and to ensure that the indicators are readily understood. The table opposite summarises the indicators which are currently being considered.
