The Vision

"We want a prosperous and sustainable farming industry, one of Scotland's success stories, which benefits all the people of Scotland. It should be:

  • focused on producing food and other products for the market;
  • a major driver in sustaining rural development, helping rural communities prosper;
  • a leading player in the protection and enhancement of the environment;
  • a major contributor to key objectives on animal health and welfare and human health and well-being;
  • keen to embrace change and market opportunities.
  • Rural Scotland is not a single entity and the type of farming varies from place to place. The role of agriculture and the range of economic, social and environmental benefits expected from it will differ from one part of Scotland to another."
