01 Introduction

This chapter to be reviewed by April 2007

1.1 This Section of Preparing Scotland complements Section 2 and its individual chapters. Category 1 and 2 responders should have regard to its advice.

1.2 The guidance in this Section is divided into chapters. Each chapter deals with a specific aspect of preparedness within the civil protection framework and gives advice on how Category 1 and 2 responders in Scotland can fulfil their responsibilities.

1.3 Each chapter provides references and links to information that might assist responders in their work.

1.4 The guidance given in this Section will change relatively frequently as Scottish resilience and preparation for emergencies advances. It will reflect contemporary good practice and will be informed by stakeholders. Each chapter has a timeline and will be reviewed regularly. For example, the chapter on Risk Assessment will be reviewed annually in the first instance to build upon experience and awareness of the process.

1.5 It is hoped that Category 1 and 2 responders will find these chapters helpful in understanding and preparing the wider civil protection framework.

1.6 The Scottish Executive Fire & Civil Contingencies Division welcomes feedback and comment on the good practice guidance. Any communications should be addressed to Ian Jordan or Rod McKenzie at the Civil Contingencies Unit. Contact details as follows:
