14. Court Services (Chart 32 and Tables 54 and 75)

14.1 Information on court services was collected from local authorities for the first time in 2004-05.

14.2 A total of 1,283 stand down reports were provided to the Courts in 2004-05, 499 of which were written and 784 were oral. The highest number of stand down reports provided was in Fife (162), East Ayrshire (137) and Angus (128).

14.3 16,335 post sentence interviews were carried out in 2004-05. A gender breakdown could not be provided for all local authorities. However where this was provided, 83 per cent of the post sentence interviews carried out were for males. The greatest number of post sentence interviews carried out was in Glasgow City (2,370), South Lanarkshire (1,359) and South Ayrshire (1,191).

14.4 51,414 SERs were presented to the Courts in 2004-05, representing 142.6 per 10,000 population. For those authorities who were able to provide the number of SERs presented to the Courts, this rate was highest in Dundee City (273.9), Edinburgh (241.5) and South Lanarkshire (236.9) and lowest in East Dunbartonshire (39.0), Orkney Islands (47.7) and Aberdeenshire (49.3). For those authorities where a gender breakdown was available, 83 per cent of the SERs presented to Courts were for males.
